About Acupuncture and Myofascial Therapies

Todd’s Therapies include Acupuncture, Acupuncture with E-stim (Electrical Stimulation), Trigger Point Dry Needling, Vacuum Cupping, Gua Sha and Myofascial Therapy. Acupuncture styles range from ancient to modern. This medicine has evolved over thousands of years and the scope of styles is limited only by ones knowledge and creativity.

By adding e-stim to an acupuncture treatment we can enhance the effectiveness of the needles affect on the muscles, nerves and surrounding tissues.  E-stim and acupuncture can also elicit effects on the central nervous system.

Trigger point Dry Needling or Intramuscular Stimulation is a modern style of acupuncture that focuses on trigger points throughout the body. Treating trigger points with acupuncture can give nearly instantaneous relief from pain and tightness in the muscles. Acupuncture and Dry Needling are both Acupuncture Therapies.

Cupping uses special vacuum cups to create suction to the outer layers of muscle and fascia. This suction will slowly and painlessly separate the layers of tissue which frees up movement and improves circulation of blood and fluids.  The improves circulation and movement quality creates fast healing and pain relief.

Guasha uses special tools along with a lubricant for the skin to “scrape” away pain. Guasha is also know as Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) or Graston Technique.  The scraping action works to separate fibers in scar tissue and adhesions in painful and injured areas of the body.  It also quickly resolves pain and restriction in the body.

Myofascial Therapies are therapies that treat the muscles and fascia. This can be done with the hands or with tools.  Cupping and Guasha are both Myofascial Therapies with tools.  Manual Myofascial Therapies are done with the hands. Rolfing is one example of a Manual Myofascial Therapy… arguable the most effective manual therapy available.
