Acupuncture with Electrical Stimulation | E-Stim

Acupuncture with Electrical Stimulation, E-Stim, sends a small electric current into the acupuncture needle. It is similar to traditional acupuncture in that the same points and meridians are stimulated, but adding electrical current makes the needle stimulation stronger and steadier. There are plenty of recent studies showing the efficacy of acupuncture with electrodes.

Electro-acupuncture is excellent for chronic pain and it also improves blood flow. There is evidence that electrical stimulation of acupuncture points activates the endorphin system, which could lower blood pressure and reduce heart disease. Electrostimulation has also been used as anesthesia and as pain relief for muscle spasms.

Electro-acupuncture was used on patients with hip osteoarthritis. They had electro-acupuncture or took a prescription pain reliever/anti-inflammatory. There was significantly more improvement in joint pain, function and range of motion among electro-acupuncture recipients than among medication recipients.

Acupuncture with E-stim reduces post-surgical pain. The day before heart surgery, patients received either electro-acupuncture or a sham treatment… after surgery, the electro-acupuncture group reported significantly lower pain intensity and required less pain medication than the other group.

Acupuncture with Electrical Stimulation can restore damaged nerves. Patients with peripheral nerve damage and some loss of muscle function had poor prognoses… but after electro-acupuncture, function improved or was recovered completely in the majority of participants.

During the treatment, patients will feel a mild tingling or tapping sensation and sometimes no sensation at all. The use of acupuncture and electrical stimulation devices should not be painful and the current can easily be adjusted on the stimulator device if there is any discomfort. There should be no side-effects with acupuncture electro stimulators.

Testimonials

I’ve pushed my body to its limits with nearly 20 years in the NHL. Todd helped me by working on some tight, over-trained muscles. Todd’s deep muscle and fascia work also helped get me through some tough pre-season training. I would recommend Todd to family, friends and team mates.

IAN LAPERRIÈRE

ASSISTANT COACH, PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

Todd has an ability to identify and work out small problems before they become big problems. Regular treatments are as important to my training and injury prevention as any exercises I do at the gym or track. I’d recommend Todd to any athlete who wants to train consistently and without pain.

ERIN DONOHUE

PROFESSIONAL TRACK ATHLETE, 2008 BEIJING OLYMPICS

I was shocked at the immediate relief I hadn’t had in years! From back injuries, to hips, shoulders and more, Todd has yet to let me down and has treated each with the same great results consistently. I feel like a “new” person when I walk out of his office! My muscles, joints and tendons are ready for some more action on the mat!
