Acupuncture works well for stress management in the same way it works well for so many other issues. By calming and normalizing the signals in the nervous system, acupuncture brings the body back into balance.
There are two divisions of the autonomic nervous system; the sympathetic (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic (rest and digest). Most of us spend way too much time in fight or flight and not enough time resting and digesting. In general, stress is okay if we recover from it. Endless deadlines, goals, traffic, intense workouts, arguments, personality conflicts, noise and many other things can contribute to stress disorders. Most of the time we are unconscious of how worked up we are and how long we sustain the pace until we start to break down. The breakdown can show up as insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, depression and other physical issues as well.
Regular acupuncture treatments can help all of these problems. During the acupuncture treatment, it’s common to have deep relaxation and peaceful rest. This is a healthy state of balance. Over time, acupuncture helps the patient become more relaxed, healthy, and balanced. When this occurs, symptoms begin to disappear. This not only shows up as stress reduction, but the patients body processes and cycles will begin to normalize as health and a peaceful mind return.
